Wrekin View’s Rounders team performed admirably in the Y56 Rounders tournament on Tuesday. They got off to a fantastic start, winning their first match, unfortunately losing their next two but finishing on a high with two fantastic wins! It was great to see the fantastic teamwork between the players and they were restricting the opposition to very few rounders with a fantastic fielding display.

Unfortunately, they lost their final game, narrowly missing out on progressing to the semi-finals.

Wrekin View’s team lost our first match but we went on to win the next four played. We were very proud to come joint first in our categories however we were pipped to the 1st post due to goal difference. A massive well done to the children who participated! You did us proud.

Y1 Hitting & Striking Challenge - Tuesday 10 May 2016

Wrekin View were invited to Telford Tennis Centre on Tuesday where they met with some sports coaches and other primary schools to take part in the Telford & Wrekin Hitting and Striking Challenge.

The children took part in a carousel course of activities that tested their abilities to aim and strike with a ball. These activities included tennis, hockey, dribbling, and dodgeball.

All fourteen children that took part did a fantastic job to cheer each other on and showed great skill, particularly with a tennis bat.

The new Andy Murrays in the making!

Y56 Dodgeball Tournament - Tuesday 9 February 2016

Wrekin View attended a dodgeball tournament at Telford tennis centre, there were 32 schools entered into this tournament and Wrekin View took up two of those places.

The tournament consisted of every school being put into a pool with 4 other schools in which they would play each other in 3 minute matches. The winner of each game was the ones with the most players left in when the final whistle went.

Wrekin view A and B both battled on in their separate pools. Wrekin View A managed to get themselves a place in the quarter finals to play against another 3 teams. The games were played on the basis that there would be a joint 3rd position.

Wrekin View A played against short wood who they faced in the warm up tournament the Thursday before.

The score at the end of the 3 games was 2-1 to Short Wood, making Wrekin view joint 3rd with St. Patricks.

Wrekin View B also did really well as they managed to keep positive about the matches they played, even though they didn't get through to the quarter finals they were definitely the better team out of the 4 schools in their pool, this was due to their determination, honesty and always playing as a team.

It was a very long day for all 12 students who took part in this tournament, but I would like to say from myself and Mrs Trench that we were both really proud of these who took part as they showed good team work, determination, honesty and all round good behaviour whilst we were at the tournament.

Y56 Dodgeball Tournament - Thursday 3 February 2016

Wrekin View were invited to a warm up session at Wrekin College on Thursday where they met with Short Wood primary to learn the tournament rules ready for the tournament on Tuesday.

Wrekin View had the advantage of two teams which were made up of 6 children each, the teams were;

Team 1;
Alex Fox
Kelsey Wood
Keenan Watson-Stevens
Courtney Cornish
Evan Riddell
Vanessa Horvathova

Team 2;
Dolton Watson-Stevens
Charlie Brealey
Grace Price
Dario Barber
Sydney Field
Orlagh Cooper

Both teams competed against each other and showed some good skills and healthy competition, they both fought on through the 15 games which were 2 minutes long, Team 1 got the lead in the first few games they then had to play Shortwood who stole the lead off them by 1 point. It was then Team 2’s turn to play Shortwood on which they lost 2-1, Short wood seemed to have the better side but only because of one individual which both the Wrekin Teams caught onto and tried their hardest to get them out. Once Shortwood had played all their games it was down to the both Wrekin teams to play each other, this was a very interesting match as they all took it very seriously and were throwing some really good balls to the opposite teams.

Wrekin were overall the better side out of the two schools because their attitude and honesty within playing the games which is brilliant. The Referee was also very impressed on how honest all the Wrekin players were when they got hit and she has also wished us the best of luck for Tuesday’s tournament.

Overall everyone gave a fantastic performance and hopefully will take everything they were taught on Thursday to the match on Tuesday.

Wrekin Team 1 came 3rd and Team 2 came 2nd, Short Wood took the 1st place but only by a few points as Wrekin were finding it very hard to get their key player out.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone for their hard work and good behaviour on Thursday and each individual has and will carry on making Wrekin View proud!

Mr Kilburn

Y34 Gymnastics Competition - Monday 25 January 2016

On Monday 25th January ten children from Years 3 and 4 went to Burton Borough to represent Wrekin View in a gymnastics competition. The children competed with 10 other schools by performing a sequence of routines on the mats and the horse. Coached by Mr Owens during indoor PE lessons, everyone had a drilled routine which was awarded points by the local gymnastics specialists. I am delighted that both Wrekin View groups performed fantastically and had very competitive scores against other schools.

The start of the next generation of Olympians.

Telford Schools Football Tournament - Thursday 9 December 2015

Wrekin View Football Team competed in the Telford Schools football tournament on Thursday evening at Langley Telford School.

In a change to the usual format, all four of the team’s fixtures were played under the floodlights on a blustery evening on astro-turf pitches.

Wrekin View were up against some tough opponents and were unable to avoid defeat in all four games, however the team showed a fantastic team spirit and  'a never say die' attitude which will stand them in good stead for the future.   Denver scored the team’s only goal, but credit must go to the defenders and goalkeepers, who put their bodies on the line time after time to stop a flurry of certain goals.  The most pleasing aspect of the evening, was despite not winning, the whole team played with a smile on their faces and showed great sportsmanship throughout.

Player of the tournament – Robert – For some outstanding last ditch tackles, well done!

Sportability - Friday 23 October 215

An enthusiastic team from Wrekin View competed in a Sportability competition on Friday 23rd October 2015 at Wrekin College.  The children put in lots of effort during the competition which was a carousel of boccia, hockey, canoeing (no water involved) and golf challenges.  The team members had to accumulate scores for their team and showed plenty of sportsmanship as well as competitive edge.  Well done to all involved and thank you to the parents who came along to support.

KS2 In-House Orienteering Competition - Tuesday 14 July 2015

Despite the damp and drizzly conditions, the whole of KS2 took part in a level 1 School Games Orienteering Competition on Tuesday 14th July.  Each class spent 45 minutes orienteering around the school grounds in groups of two and three.

For many children it was their first experience of map reading, but they quickly picked up the skill of orientating their maps and were able to navigate around the course.  Congratulations to 45C who won the competition by having the most children complete their stamper sheets.  It was a fantastic day and the children all showed great resilience, perseverance and teamwork!

Y3 Tennis Tournament - Tuesday 30 June 2015

Three Year 3 children played out a tennis tournament in sweltering conditions on Tuesday afternoon.

Matthew, Oskar and Holly put their skills to the test in a round robin tournament against a group of children from St. Patricks Primary School. There was some fantastic tennis on show and great sportsmanship throughout.

Well done to all that competed in such hot and sticky conditions.

Y56 Rounders Tournament - Monday 15 June 2015

Wrekin View’s Rounders team performed admirably in the Y56 Rounders tournament on Monday. They got off to a fantastic start, winning all of their first four games. It was great to see the fantastic teamwork between the players and they were restricting the opposition to very few rounders with a fantastic fielding display. Unfortunately, they lost their final game, narrowly missing out on progressing to the semi-finals.

Player of the tournament – Daniel Currier – A superb batting display from our secret weapon.

Telford Cross Country Series 2015

A record number of children from across KS2 represented Wrekin View in the recent cross country event over the past two months. The runners competed against schools from across Telford at four venues: Dothill Primary School, Telford Town Park, Telford Hornets and Chetwynd Park. Each course was approximately 1000m and was often extremely challenging due to gruelling hills and boggy ground.

The children showed a tremendous team spirit and gave their all over the course of the series, always looking to improve on their previous race position. It was so pleasing to see children cheering each other on which made the event a pleasure to be part of.

A huge thank you to Mrs Johnson, Mrs Sobey, Miss Marsh and Mr Garner for attending each event and supervising, organising and motivating the children so expertly. You helped so much in the smooth running of each event.

Achievement Awards

Congratulations to the following children in each year who were nominated for an achievement award after completing all 4 races. They all showed a fantastic attitude, were always motivated to improve their previous result and cheered on the rest of the team!

 Telford Cross Country Series 2015

Wednesday 18th March 2015 – Dothill

Wrekin View entered a record-breaking number of runners into this year’s first race of the cross country series.  For the first time the school was represented in every age group, with 31 children completing the 1000m course around the grounds of Dothill Primary School.  The children all put in a lot of effort to complete the gruelling course with some stand out performances, however the most pleasing aspect was the teamwork and support shown for each other amongst the children.  A big thanks to the PTA who kindly provided a new ‘Wrekin View Flag’ which made the organisation much easier than in previous years.  The children are all looking forward to next week’s event at Telford Town Park.

WVFC Y56 Ladies Tournament Thursday 5 March 2015

Wrekin View’s Girls’ Football team competed in a football tournament at a chilly AFC Telford on Thursday afternoon. After a winter of preparation under the guidance of head coach, Miss Marsh, the girls headed to the tournament in a positive frame of mind. The girls got off to a slow start, losing their first three games, but roared back in fantastic style to win their final group game by 3 goals to nil. It was so encouraging to see the camaraderie amongst the girls and the team spirit they have clearly developed during their training sessions. They played with a fantastic attitude and sportsmanship which made Miss Marsh, Mr Kilburn and the watching parents, very proud!

Player of the tournament – Aliyah – A terrific work-rate and great attitude.

Y56 Dodgeball Tournament Monday 9 February 2015

Wrekin View proved to be a force to be reckoned with for a second successive year, in a Year 5/6 Dodgeball tournament at Madeley Academy on Monday afternoon. Two teams were entered as part of the 24-team competition involving various Primary Schools across Telford. Both teams played superbly; Wrekin B won four games and lost one which led them to narrowly missing on the finals. Wrekin A however, romped to victory in their group, winning all five games. This led to them competing in the playoffs for the chance to retain their title. In a breath-taking final round of games, the team dodged their way to a second place finish, once again doing the school proud.

Football Match Report Thursday 16 October 2014
HLC 2 - 3 WVFC 34

WVFC Y34 scored a last minute winner to triumph by 3 goals to 2 away at HLC on Thursday evening.  It was a truly memorable game which saw Wrekin View turn round a 1 goal deficit at half time, to storm back in the second half and maintain their 100% start to the season.

Both teams played their part in an enthralling encounter which was end to end with chances galore.  Trailing at the break, WVFC quickly got into their stride and two quick fire goals from Charlie and Tom gave them a deserved lead. HLC came back strong and soon levelled the scores with a breakaway goal.

With the game heading for a draw and time running out, the ball fell loose in the box for Matthew. The tenacious Year 3 player made no mistake, slotting the ball into the bottom corner leading to wild celebrations from the players, fans and manager!

Man of the match – Matthew – 100% commitment and effort topped off by scoring the winner.

Friendly Football Match Report Tuesday 14 October 2014
WVFC Ladies 2 - 4 Randlay Primary

A record crowd packed into Wrekin Meadow on Tuesday evening to watch WVFC Ladies' first game of the season. The girls all showed a tremendous attitude and the watching fans were treated to an enthralling encounter. Wrekin View took the lead in the first half through a well taken strike by Iqra. This was a lead they held onto until half time. Randlay started the second half more brightly and quickly established a 3-1 advantage. The girls didn’t allow their heads to drop and were soon on the score sheet again through Aliyaah. Optimism was rising amongst the spectators that the home team could secure an unlikely draw however this was dashed late on as Randlay added a fourth goal. Many thanks to all the parents, staff and children who turned up on a miserable evening to support the girls. It was clear how much this meant to them. Big thanks also to Miss Marsh, who has only had two training sessions with the girls, but coached the team to put on an impressive opening performance.

Player of the match – Lily – Some very solid defending and a fantastic attitude.

Football Match Report Thursday 9 October2014
Apley Wood 8 - 0 Y56 WVFC

Wrekin View FC suffered a heavy defeat in their most recent league fixture on Thursday evening. Coming up against an extremely strong Apley Wood team, Wrekin View struggled to get a foothold in the game and soon found themselves behind. Despite the best efforts of a stretched defence, the goals continued to flow and Apley Wood went into halftime with a commanding lead. After a few tactical changes during the break, Wrekin View came out revitalised in the second half and forced a series of corners which unfortunately came to nothing. However Apley Wood were deserved winners and must surely be one of the favourites to win the tournament this season. The boys were in positive mood after the game and keen to get back to winning ways next time out.

Man of the match – Tai – Never gave up hope and put in a battling display.

Football Match Report Thursday 2 October 2014
Y34 WVFC 2 - 1 Shortwood Primary

Wrekin View Y3/4 FC got their season off to a winning start on Thursday evening with a fantastic display. The parents that turned up to support were treated to a memorable game as the team ran out worthy 2-1 winners. Both goals came in the first half courtesy of Alex and Tom, but the score line could have had a more convincing feel as Wrekin View also rattled the crossbar three times!! The team showed a brilliant attitude and are eager and excited about their next fixture.

Man of the match – Alex – Truly one for the future.  A powerhouse in the middle of midfield.

Football Match Report Thursday 25 September 2014
Y56 WVFC 0 - 5 Shortwood Primary

Wrekin View FC suffered defeat in their first league game of the season despite a spirited performance on Thursday evening. A newly assembled team, fielding new fewer than six debutants, made a positive start to the game cheered on by a healthy home crowd. After a few near misses, Shortwood made their dominance pay towards the end of the first half, going into the break with a 2 goal lead. Wrekin View showed great determination to get back into the game in the second half, however as the half wore on, Shortwood scored three further goals to seal victory.

Man of the match – Calvin – A determined display with lots of promise for the future.

Games Report Wednesday 2 July 2014
Shropshire Games - Shrewsbury Sports Village

Due to their victory at the Telford and Wrekin Dodgeball tournament earlier in the year, Wrekin View  represented Phoenix at the 2014 Shropshire Games on Wednesday at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

Schools from across Shropshire arrived in Shrewsbury for a day of competition and fun! During the opening ceremony, the children were treated to music, drama and some freestyle football skills, as well as a passionate speech from local Paralympic athlete, Nick Beigton.

Following the opening ceremony, Wrekin View’s Dodgeball team were straight into the action, competing in the main sports hall.  The team were involved in five extremely exciting, competitive and close matches and did manage one victory, although the rest of the games ended in narrow defeats.

The rest of the day was spent discovering new activities that were on offer in the athlete’s village including indoor climbing, freestyle football, archery and jump ropes.

As always, the children were very well behaved and showed fantastic sportsmanship.

Championship Report Wednesday 25 June 2014
Summer Term 2014 Inter-School Athletics Championship

Wrekin View were strongly represented at the Telford Schools Athletics Championships on Wednesday 25th June at Madeley Academy.

All children showed fantastic effort and commitment as they competed running, throwing and jumping events.

The tournament concluded with a relay race involving a mixed team from both Years 5 and 6 children.

It was so pleasing to see the teamwork and camaraderie that children developed.  A special mention to Sam Kirkpatrick-Weaver for coming first in the 80m sprint, making him the fastest Year 6 boy in Telford.

A special thanks to Mrs Johnson and Mrs Sobey for all their fantastic support throughout the afternoon, and of course thank you to all the parents and friends who came along to cheer on our team!

Tournament Report Monday 16 June 2014
Summer Term 2014 Inter-School Y56 Rounders Competition

Wrekin View Rounders Team performed admirably in there debut tournament at Charlton School on Monday 16th June. The mixed Y5/6 team finished with a record of played 5, won 2, lost 3, which unfortunately meant they missed out on qualifying for the finals.

The most pleasing aspect of the day was the improvement the team made from game to game. Rounders is a very tactical game and the team became more tactically astute as the tournament progressed.

As always the children were a credit to the school and were looking particularly smart in the new sports kit supplied by Jo Heath from Little Kickers.

A big thank you also to Mrs Preece for supporting and encouraging the children.

Player of the Tournament - Milly Fletcher - a solid bowling performance coupled with some impressive striking of the ball.

Football Match Report Thursday 20 March 2014
WVFC 5 - 1 Millbrook Primary

WVFC rounded off their league campaign with a fantastic victory on Thursday evening at Wrekin View Meadows to maintain their 100% home record.  During a well contested first half, Millbrook took the lead with a long range effort.  Wrekin View quickly responded with a goal through Liam (his first of the season) which left the scores level at half time.

Millbrook were simply blown away in the second half by a fabulous display of attacking football from the home side.  A quick fire hat-trick from Sam alongside a second goal in a week for William, ensured the boys ran in emphatic 5 -1 winners.

The squad all showed a terrific attitude in awful conditions and big thanks must also go to Wrekin View’s cheerleaders who braved the elements to cheers the team on.

Man of the Match – Sam – A brilliant hat-trick and always looked a threat.

T&W Dodgeball Tournament

Wrekin View competed in the Year 5/6 Dodgeball tournament at Madeley Academy on Wednesday morning. Two teams were entered as part of the sixteen team competition involving various Primary Schools across Telford. Both teams acquitted themselves excellently and evidence of hard work during the lunchtime club was clearly evident, as all players clearly understood the rules and importance of teamwork!

Wrekin View 1 won their group stage, giving them the chance of glory as they progressed to the finals. During three fast-paced, highly charged games, Wrekin View dodged, threw and caught their way to victory. All players performed brilliantly and were a credit to Wrekin View.

The team have now qualified to represent Telford & Wrekin at the Summer L3 Games in July!

Football Match Report Monday 17 March 2014
St Patricks 4 - 1 WVFC

Wrekin View FC’s hopes of qualifying for the knock out phase of the Y5/6 Boys Football competition, were ended at St Patrick’s on Monday evening.

In yet another evenly contested first half, Wrekin View went in level at the half time interval. A strike from William, after a determined run, cancelled out St. Patrick’s opener. Despite their best efforts in the second half, our boys had no answer to St. Patrick’s forward play and our local rivals ran out deserved winners.

The team will hope to defend their unbeaten home record  this Thursday with a fixture against Millbrook Primary.

Man of the match – WVFCs Jamie – Another assured performance at the back.

Football Match Report Thursday 13 March 2014
Dothill 4 - 1 WVFC

Wrekin View returned to league action with a disappointing defeat on Thursday evening. The boys came up a strong and more experienced Dothill team who ran out 4-1 winners.

During the evenly contested early stages, Dothill opened the scoring before WVFC responded almost immediately with a well taken goal from a corner. In a well-rehearsed routine straight from the training ground, Richard put in an enticing cross to the back post, where Sam KW was waiting to head into the roof of the net. This moment provided to be the highlight for the visitors as Dothill went on to score 3 further goals to put the game out of reach.

The team have an immediate chance to put this result behind them with the eagerly awaited ‘North Road Derby’ against St. Patricks on Monday evening.

Man of the match – WVFCs Joseph - Produced a string of fantastic saves to keep the score line down.

Friendly Football Match Report Thursday 13 February 2014
WVFC 2 - 1 St Marys

WVFC's star striker Richard scored a stunning double on his return to WVFC's first team.  It was a case of revenge being a dish served cold (and very windy) as Wrekin View atoned for an earlier defeat against St. Mary’s, with a morale boosting victory at Wrekin Meadow on Thursday afternoon!

It was an evenly contested first half, in which both teams defended well.  Despite the goal less first half, WVFC soon set about maintaining their 100% home record early in the second half!  A fine finish by Richard was soon cancelled out by a well taken equaliser by St. Mary’s. Nevertheless, Wrekin View’s heads didn’t drop and they went in search of a winner.  With the clock ticking towards full time, a fine team move involving Sam and Liam, resulted in Richard firing in the winner to the delight of the home crowd!

Although Wrekin View’s defence had to withstand some late pressure, they stood firm to record a 2-1 victory.

Man of the match – WVFC's Mulhim - A rock at the heart of the defence.  Mulhim made one challenge in the first half that was Des Walker-esque!

Friendly Football Match Report Wednesday 5 December 2013
St Marys 4 - 3 WVFC

WVFC's first friendly away game of the season ended in a narrow defeat on Thursday afternoon at a blustery St. Mary’s School.  Despite a scintillating start, in which William opened the scoring for Wrekin View within ten seconds, St. Mary’s equalised mid-way through the half to leave the teams level at half time.

Both teams were doing their best in gale force conditions, on a pitch resembling a farmers’ field!  After a slow start, the second half broke into life when Sam scored a well taken goal to regain the lead for Wrekin View.  The visitors were then undone by a frantic five minute spell in which St. Mary’s scored three times to take a commanding 4-2 lead.

This left Wrekin View a little shell-shocked, nevertheless they never gave up and Sam pulled another goal back in the dying minutes to give the score a more respectable score line.  We look forward to welcoming St. Mary’s for a return fixture in the New Year.

Football Tournament Report Tuesday 26 November 2013
WVFC Girls - Won 1, Lost 2

Wrekin View Year 5/6 Girl’s football team did the school proud when they competed in a tournament preceding the first game of the Women’s under-17 European Championships at AFC Telford on Tuesday morning.

Despite only having one training session prior to the tournament, the girls competed admirably and put in a great performance with every player playing their part.  Even though they dominated the first two games, they couldn’t convert any of the numerous chances they created and the opposition scored on the break.  There was better news in the final game however, as the girls scored their first goal and also kept a clean sheet to seal a memorable victory!

Mr Kilburn has since been inundated with requests from girls who would like to join the team which is extremely pleasing.  Due to the winter break there won’t be any further fixtures before Christmas, however we will be looking to organise some more games in the Spring term.

Football Match Report Thursday 26 September 2013
WVFC 5 - 0 Shortwood Primary

Wrekin View Primary School got off to a flying start in the Year 5/6 Football Championships, with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over local rivals Shortwood Primary.

After a keenly contested first half which ended goal less, Wrekin View took full advantage of shooting downhill in the second half with a ruthless display of counter-attacking football. After breaking the deadlock early in the second period through Richard, Wrekin View laid siege to the Shortwood goal, scoring on a further four occasions! Two great strikes from Sam, as well two further strikes from Richard (resulting in a well deserved hat-trick) ensured the victory.

Thanks to all the staff, pupils, family and friends, who swelled the bumper crowd, for their support. I’m sure they all went home happy after a fantastic game of football!

Our next fixture is an eagerly awaited ‘North Road Derby’ against St. Patricks on Thursday 10th October (POSTPONED)
